What the heck just happened to me??

Postby Viggs » 21 May 2010 14:44

I've got a little prank-war going on with my friends at work. First, I rigged my friend's locker to dump confetti all over his head ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSLzde6UKUU ). Next, I rigged a 135 db. horn to another guy's locker ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9INLZYKbxzE ). So they both struck back at me by taking my locker door off its hinges and filling it with spray foam.

I decided to fix that problem by epoxying my hinges, installing a hasp, and buying a $60 Mul-T lock padlock. So, Thursday was my day off. I came in this morning, opened my door, and there was a note pinned inside of it (saying "hi, from lockpcking class). And my tools were gone (hidden).

So here's my question... I KNOW Mul-T locks cn be picked. But the kid who did this has no idea how to pick locks. Apparently (according to those who were there) he was on the phone with a friend, who was giving him instructions. And he executed some sort of bypass technique with a wire (similar to the American lock and master 175 bypass). Today was his day off. And Im going to have to ask him about how he did it tomorrow. But is anybody here aware of there being a bypass technique for Mul-T lock padlocks? I've never heard of it. And I'm going to have to take the thing apart to see if I can figure out the weakness.

Although no one else here will, I believe you. In any case, this is another one of those "advanced forum" things. Bypass and High Security (like Mul-T-Lock) topics are restricted to those forums. The good news is that your post count (assuming quality) is pretty close to the requirement for access. Try applying and join us.

Thanks, I'll try applying. But here's an update. I got off the phone w/ this kid five minutes ago. And I grilled him about it. He finally admitted that he didn't actually open the shackle. So I'm still totally stumped as to how he got in (he must have attacked the hasp or hinges). But it turns out that he didn't actually pick or bypass the lock after all. Everybody just agreed to feed me that story the next day.

Everybody was telling me the most outrageous stuff. I was toally confused. One guy told me he used a blanket pin. Another guy told me he used a toothpick. It all sounded so stupid and unlikely. But I couldn't deny that he got in. So I had to give their story the benefit of the doubt

I'm willing to bet the panel between your locker and the one next to yours is removable.

Yup, that's the first thing I plan to check tomorrow. My locker, upstairs, is made of 3/4 plywood. And we built the entire bank of lockers ourselves. The guys to my right and left were in on this joke. So I think this kid opened both of the side lockers, unscrewed both my side panels and slid the whole thing (door, lock, and walls) right out of the unit, then put it all back when he was done.

lol. Clever little knucklehead.

There is only one thing you can do. You have to go Real Genius on them and either remove ALL lockers from locker room and put his car in the locker room, or leave all the lockers in the locker room but fill each one completely full of pop corn.

=)
best movie ever.

lol, that's on the MIT level of epic. I think my next move will be to take everything out of his locker, line it with plexi-glass, and convert it into a fish tank (Complete with colored gravel, fake plants and a neon light).

Just thinking - if the locker has ventilation slots of any kind, you wouldn't need to open the door to fill it with spray foam - a drinking straw adapter would to it :)

The locker they filled w/ foam was different from the ones in my two videos. And it was full of my tools. So (mercifully), they opened it up to remove my stuff, build a barrier 1/3 of the way in, and foam the opening third. Even so... it was so dense and hard, that I had to literally whale on it for 5 minutes with an ice-chipper (like you use to bust ice on your sidewalk in the winter) to get it out.

Oh and btw... I solved the mystery of how the guy got into my locker. They dremmeled the stopper off the bottom of my hinges, removed the pins, and touched up the scuff marks with paint to match my locker. Took me 10 mins to notice the touched up scuff marks from the cutting wheel. lol
