Need some advice please

Postby Scope » 19 Jun 2010 11:58

Hello,

Im looking to buy what looks to be a very useful item.

http://www.lockpickshop.com/DNT-21.html

Do many of you use this tool, and is it any good/worth buying? The main reason is the price im gonna pay for such an item.
It looks worth buying as ive seen videos with the tool in action, just want some feedback from LP101 if anyone has got this Item.

I thought id show a link to your sponsors web page as a ref point :D

Any post thats positive is very welcome!

Regards

I have no personal experience, but I have only heard bad things about it. I doubt its worth your money and you are probably better off getting a Peterson prybar and just getting used to it. If you need a double sided one probably make your own or just buy a cheap one with a set. hope that helps.

I have the simpler model right under that one. It's quite awkward to use and to get used to so I never really use it. I don't even remember where I put it either. Not really worth it from my view point.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Don't waste your money. The feedback is horrible, they're awkward to use, and they don't fit any of our keyways without modification either.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. I have a few different picks and thought id use this tool with a pick gun rather than bump keys, which are more expensive to buy. I was intending to use it on cylinder locks. What do you mean by an adaptor? Is this for UK locks?

Again thanks for the feedback :D

Why are you picking locks with a snap gun?

why not, is it a bad thing? I'm trying out different tools and a snap gun is one of them as well as standard picks. I am fully aware that a snap gun is for rapid entry hence im getting used to it now along with manual picks.

Well, this is a hobby lockpicking forum... NOT a locksmith forum.

Snap guns and bump keys are considered "cheating" to most of us, since your not actually picking the lock.

Oh no worries.

Also, that tool sucks since it restricts movement a bit. Not totally sure about snap guns and that tool thou.

I had seen a video somewhere on the net with a dude using it, he managed to open the lock fairly quicky using it, the only off putting thing is the price, and i wasn't sure weather it could be used with lock picks i already own. If i could it would be a welcome tool, if not im gonna keep to standard tension tools and build a small collection of different sizes as you "can't have enough". However saying this it seems as if it does't have a good rep at all and not really used, also if it needs an adaptor, not sure i want to hastle myself getting all the gear needed to use it as the cost will go up and up.

Well for anyone else who want's to buy that item either make sure you really know what your buying or just stick to what you know/get advised to buy.

Happy picking!

You arent very diverse are you?

If all you talked about on the site was lock picking and lock picking only there wouldnt be much of a site...

As much as i loathe bump keys it is a legitamate method of opening a lock.

Opening locks is a great hobby but some people like to learn about real life lock opening (ie: opening used locks that have seen a bit of weathering and are 100 times harder to pick than your fresh out the box lock), bypass methods, impressioning and general mechanics of the locks themselves.

Its a very broad subject and i think slating people for having a different approach is a bit narrow minded
