difference between precision and normal cutaway?

Postby tacomn » 30 Jun 2010 22:15

this is the precision: http://cgi.ebay.com/PRECISION-CUTAWAY-L ... 2558c21712

this is the normal: http://cgi.ebay.com/PRACTICE-LOCK-SCHLA ... 096wt_1099

the normal only comes only in SCHLAGE SC4 while the precision i can get a yale.
Which option is best for practice in the long run. thanks

I hate to rain on someone's sales picnic but for something as common as key in knob cylinders I do not understand why you need a cut-away to practice picking. Go by a local locksmith shop and become a friend. All (?most) locksmith shops have so many take-out cylinders they often just throw them away. For the price that site wanted for one, you can buy several new cylinders and have a lot more fun.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

Well, if you have the choice of either, I'd personally probably choose the "precision" one: it's a little hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like it would be easier to remove pinstacks from (which is helpful for when you're just getting started and might want a lock with only three or four pins to practice on).

I would choose the Yale personally. But that's because I have a bunch of Schlage KIK's already.
