The deadbolt on my apartment was a super old Dexter lock, so I went out and got a Schlage Securekey deadbolt. I didn't really buy it for the rekeying factor, more just because it was "Grade 1" in security.
As far as deadbolts go ( I understand they're pretty easy to pick in a couple of minutes if you know what you're doing ), is the Schlage Securekey deadbolt worth having on your door? Or is there another "lower cost" (around $50) deadbolt that would be a better choice?
Yeah, go back to store and find a non-Securekey Schlage if there are any left on the shelf. I found a "commercial" one for $30 at home depot last week (Home Depot SKU: 493467, Schlage Model BR260CS), but it only came in silver, not in the brass finish.
How was someone trying to get into your Dexter? kicking? drilling? lock picking? The Securekey does offer some drill protection but is not as well built as a normal older style Schlage. (just my own opinion, your mileage may vary)
