Hey, a friend wanted to know why one side of his keys is flat with a grove on the other side, is this unusual or does some types of keys come like it? If anyone could shead any light would be helpful.

A picture of the key would help, but it sounds like it is just warding or a passive profile feature.

That's normal for that type of key. Simple wafer locks (used on office furniture and other low security items) are often made with one side flat, it's cheaper than having to mill a profile in both sides of the key.

Yes, it's common on Lowe & Fletcher locks for draws, cashboxes, etc. for example.
