While Picking-Slight turn in the shell

Hey i just picked up picking as a hobby, and i decided to get a head start on picking before my kit got here, so ive read the guides, and i started picking one of my locks with a few bobby pins. Ive successfully opened it a few times, but i have a question.

When i try raking the pins, sometimes the shell will turn like its about to open, but it doesnt turn all the way. It turns just a bit more then you could before, and after i reset the pins it wont turn to the same spot anymore.

Now is this a result of one pin getting stuck near the shear line? Ive tried to figure out what this is.. If maybe ill almost there, but every time it does that it seems like i have to reset the pins. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

That's called a false set. The lock will have at least one spool pin in it... pretty simple to overcome once you know the trick to them.

Ahh.. so when one pin is false set it will do that eh? And is there any way to get that pin set without having to reset the whole thing?

The false set is a result of a spool pin that is caught on the middle of the spool pin. If you don't know about security pins do a search.
