I've been all over the net to learn the basics on this trade. I found an online course, but anywhere on their web page tells me about their location or anything like about how legitimate they are. PSU anyone know if it is a scam? The cost of the price is ridicusly cheap :?
Thank you in advance.

Sorry, never heard of em, you can ask questions here and some of them will be answered, others will just get you the "impugned motives" response.
Most of what you need is actually here in the stickies.
exceptfor the necessary experience.

Stickies are the threads at the beginning of each forum list that are locked and have a little exclamation point to the left of them. I'm sure it may seem like a stupid point to make, but when I first started coming here...I had no idea what people where talking about with "stickies" after a brief while, I put two and two together. I do no frequent posting or blogging sites like this often, so maybe the meaning of "stickies" is commonly known...but it wasn't to me.
As for your question, I agree with Rai, I have been into this for several months now and everything I know I got from this site. Everything I can do, I got from practice. My point is that you should need nothing but this site to get on your way and to help you as you progress. It's mountains of information on-demand and it's free. It doesn't matter how cheap the course is, It isn't free and I can't think of many major advantages to having an instructor in a class setting for one or two classes, over the research yourself and teach yourself method. The only thing you will need that you can't get on this site is picks and even then, this site can help point you in the best direction.

Thank you raymundo and chaos! I'm a General contractor, about four to six times a year I get asked to open locks and or re-key,so I've allways sub that work just to give the service to my clients, without making a dime, since our industry it's been slow I tougth about upgrading my licence by adding a credencial. I really think this one place is bogus,or if is not $99.00 versus others I've seen hand on training $2,500.00 Guess you get what you pay
Chaos, I'll go to all post and keepon learning :)
Thank you fellas!

you do four to six lock jobs a year, do you mean you work on one lock or you set up a system of many locks, in any case, very likely you are working on similiar locks or lock solution/problems, so you would not need to learn to identify 1000 different keyblanks as someone who just works copying keys would.

Courses are always very basic, most of them won't even get into the esoteric stuff until after you take the first course, then they may or maynot have some further stuff to sell you.

Very likely your needs are to work on similiar problems, not the likelyhood of seeing different problems every time, so the knowlege set that you require is more likely to be satisfied by a site like this one where you could get some answers to questions from people who know their stuff or have good ideas about how to set things up.

your ability to search the site will also be helpful to find information that has already been posted. In any case I would recommend that you look at the different courses that some people here discuss, Pen and foster, and a couple of others are often mentioned. What the course consists of I don't know except that most of the courses are very basic at least in the beginning. even if you take one, you will find out that this place, lp101 is a huge resource.

I had the idea of some sort of cert will help, but at this time a decent school it's about 2k. And this other place it's online, so my guess is maybe alot of papers that i wont be using. I agree with you on this one so far I'm going thru all of what I can get my hands on, and i'm going to the library next.Bougth a pick set and will be here on the 2nd. :)
Thank you for those quick responces.

It all depends. Does your jurisdiction require a license to operating locksmithing business?
Most don't. If you don't need a license, you'll be better off just to learn from books, buy few locks, disassemble them and put them back together.

Frankly, in your case, I'd just drill, not pick. If you still want to learn picking, it takes lots of time and practice to open that lock every time in a reasonable amount of time.
