Hole in Deadbolt lock

Postby snm47 » 9 Dec 2010 23:37

My friend recently noticed there is a small hole that has been drilled into her deadbolt from the outside frontdoor enterance. Upon entering the house before noticing the drilled hole, she noticed that someone has been in her house and things had gone missing.
My question is, what is someone capable of doing now that my friend has a hole drilled just to the left of where the key is to entered?

If someone drilled the lock then the key would no longer work, how did she not notice? And is she not gonna replace it?

I smell something fishy :|

Oh right, it's to the left of the keyway... just noticed that part. At any rate we can't tell you what someone can do to get in, after she gets done with the police/insurance company etc just replace the lock.

It depends entirely on the lock.
Some locks have small holes already when manufactured, see e.g. some of the pictures on this page: http://www.kwikset.com/

If the hole is round and looks as if it was recently drilled, call the police to let them investigate. Also you can post a picture here to get some expert advice.
