practice locks and an intro

Postby garthax » 30 Dec 2010 13:47

Good day to everyone.

First and foremost I am a complete novice when it comes to lockpicking. I do understand all of the mechanics and principles about locks and how the different types work and are pickable. I have been considered it a hobby of mine for the past 12 years and use my knowledge to help others out in their times of need (mostly simple locked doors in my office building) I have offered minor advice as well to others based on what I have learned over the years when it comes to locks for their personal use. I have a wide variety of picks in my colletion. Most are over 10 years old with the exception of my new SouthOrd 7 pin tubular pick. This is my first post to this forum but I have been reading it now constantly for the past two weeks since I became a member. Constantly meaning several hours each day.

Now my questions to the general community.

After searching on ebay for van locks (vending machine) I have came up emtpy. I am looking for a few of them for practice.

1. Does anyone know where one can order these van locks or can point me in the correct direction?

After watching a certain video that was linked here and seeing the SouthOrd pick used I replaced my older tubular lock pick with the SouthOrd. After praciticing with over 20 different locks I feel really comfotable with the pick. So my next question is in relation to a van lock pick vs a tubular lock pick

2. Are the general methods of picking a van lock similar to those of a normal 7 pin tubular lock using a designed pick for the purpose? I will not go into the details and methods because of respect for the general forum but those that know the SouthOrd and how it is used will understand what I am asking in relation to a Van Lock pick.

look for special locks on ebay or similiar auction sites. there may be sites specifically for locks, I have not seen one yet but just yesterday I found one for guns, so things that are not on ebay can be found on more specific sites, if there is one for locksmiths or lock hobbyists, let us know.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
