i just took apart my schlage lock because of some idiot stuck a toothpick in the cylinder, and almost finished putting it back together and found this piece leftover. can someone please advise me where this piece goes?? thanks http://img257.imageshack.us/i/dsc00201ca.jpg/

I have never come across that piece before in a Schlage lock.

Not sure where the part would go but have you tried pulling the lock apart again, laying all the parts out in the order that you pull them apart and seeing where the piece will fit into??

Actually just figured it out. It helps keep the knob from pulling out: thanks for the help guys.

So is it the part that goes behind the cylinder when it's in the knob?

Not a pro, but it goes in the middle section. I think it also helps the knob from spinning 360 degrees.
