Lock Difficulty

Postby جاناتان » 4 Feb 2011 1:16

I am a moderate level picker. I SSP and am familiar with picking security pins. I have been having frustrating and embarrassing difficulty picking my own front door deadlock.

It is this one: http://www.doorlocksdirect.com/78011p.html

It is frustrating as deadlocks usually never give me near this difficulty. I have yet to open it. Does anyone here have any advice, or information on the Bump Guard technology?

Note that I realize this door is in use. It is, however, my own door and I accept the consequences of any damage I may cause. Also, I am not attempting to pick this in lieu of hiring a locksmith. I own a functional key, and the door functions properly.

Is the one you're picking the SmartKey or the regular pin tumbler version? If it's the SmartKey there will be a tiny slot in the lock face just a few millimeters to the left of the keyway. If that's what it is, I find them to be very difficult to pick, but a few people on these boards have done it. Someone on here wrote a tutorial on how to pick them a couple of years ago, I think it was Doug Farre.

Keep trying.. Some of the new Kwiksets have spool pins. This is also a 6-pin lock so if you are feeling for five you will be disappointed. Make sure it is not the Smartkey and keep on picking.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.
