Need help identifying key

Postby freddypagaga » 22 Mar 2011 1:35

Hi,
My aunt recently passed away and I came across this key in her things. By any chance does anyone recognize it or have any idea what it could go to?
Thanks,
Becky

It looks like a key for a " Club" steering wheel lock

Im not sure if keysman is right,

I think that I have seen this key or this type of key on barry wels blackbag, try searching there, if you don't find it, you won't have wasted your time looking, the site has a lot of good stuff on it.

It's a Club key for sure, that W logo is Winner International, the makers of the Club and, well, I use to own one for my Club ;-)

This key seems to be very similar to this one.
Could be also locking principle similar?

@n0n4m3
That's actually quite an interesting style of locking mechanism that I haven't seen before. What I've been able to find out so far the key is described as omni-directional and can unlock the mechanism no matter what direction it is inserted. Is this a style of push key, or does it operate by turning?

The key can be inserted any direction but it needs to be turned until it aligns the pins properly before it turns the plug.

The grooves in the key do the normal thing, but you'll notice they sit in a sort of channel... when the pins drop into the channel and align correctly, the inner wall (best way to describe it) pushes the sides of the key pins and that's what turns the plug. Dunno if the club is the same idea but that's how the one n0n4m3 posted works. That particular lock is based on the maxis design.

n0n4m3: i have one of those padlocks. it is not the same kind of key that freddypagaga posted. the key to the LSL padlock is like a kwikset key that is rounded so it can be inserted into the lock in any direction and still work when turned in either direction.

I became aware of differences between the two keys as soon as I posted. :(
...but...what's the idea behind club?
PS. Thanks Solomon for your clear explanation about maxis!
