I just found a floor safe in my house

Postby jayjjj3 » 5 Jun 2011 17:42

As the title says, I just found a floor safe in my house and I was wondering if i could open it. Apparently the first owner of this house installed it, but the second owner didn't know about it, and now I found it. It looks pretty old I think it was installed in the early 90's or somewhere around there and it says it is an Amsec safe (the company is from Fontana,CA) and it has a serial number of 455870, but it has no model number. It has a combination dial thinking with number from o to 100 and two dashes on the outer edge of the dial, and on the knob on it it says Sargent & Greeanleaf, Inc. Nicholasville, Kentucky. I would like to know what safe it is and how I would go about opening it.

That S&G 6730 lock on that AMSEC safe is not for beginners so we could give you all sorts of tips but it wouldn't help open it.

But more importantly, safe opening and discussion is also not allowed unless you have Advanced Forum access. Please check out Rule 19 of the site rules: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=715

Your local locksmith should be able to open that for you, it won't be free but it's your most viable option right now.

I hope you are the home owner and not a renter.
I would pay to get it drilled, reset and repaired, just for the fact that a floor safe is a pretty cool thing to own without actually paying for it.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if a safe is cool, how about a vault? In the 1940s, the Reserve Bank built a vault in a local suburb to hold the nation's cash reserves in case of a Japanese invasion. It built a house on top to discourage vandalism. In the early 1970s, the bank had no further use for the house, so sold it, complete with vault.

The house recently fell into disrepair and the vault is no longer there:
