Anyone using the new upgrade to The Premier Speedex

Postby Hollywoodpick » 19 Sep 2011 17:06

Hi

Going to buy The Premier Speedex but i see they have a new upgrade out for it that turns it into a code cutter in a new kind of way.
Can see the upgrade here
http://www.hpcworld.com/kma/adapters/sp ... index.html

Anyone using this with the upgrade do you like how this works and dose it work good for true cuts???
Is it worth the extra price to add on.

I am thinking i would be a good add on to buy with the cutter right from the get go.
Seems like they or someone could make a special cylinder and pin set that you could change out the pins super easy to cut any code you want fast. Looks like this will not work for a car key? unless someone makes a special item just for car keys in many styles but i think that could be done.

What are your thoughts on this it is not your normal code cut system and only works with a cylinder but that might be ok for a lot of things..
I am new so not 100% sure on this.

Another thought i have on this is in place of using space keys you could makes sets of cylinder's with different pis sets in each one so you just pull out the number you want and start cutting.

But i guess that would be a lot of cylinder's to make and cost a lot to do.
Still seems like making one special change out easy one would be better. Maybe i will create one if this all works..

@Hollywoodpick:

You would have to disassemble a lock in order to use that accessory... Which is rather gimmicky and takes quite a while to use carefully compared to turning dials on a real code cutter...

This "accessory" would NOT work on master keyed cylinders as you would be cutting a key which would neither be a master key not a change key but the plug total in each chamber which may or may not open additional locks depending on the master key system in question...

You could much more easily cut keys by code without having to play with pins -- a Pro-lok blue punch comes to mind...

To have a code cutting machine that requires you to take a lock apart and disassemble the cylinder to be able to produce a working key SOME of the time, not worth the investment...

You wouldn't have to use depth and space keys at all if you bought a real code cutting machine... You will need several different code cutting machines to do all the work you want to do anyway -- at the very least a traditional one like the HPC 1200/Framon II/ITL 9000 as well as one which can duplicate and originate laser track cut (sidewinder) keys since you need to do automotive work... The machine you are asking about here is just one to be used to duplicate keys you aren't decoding to originate on another machine, it has ZERO need to be a code cutter itself...

Looking at this cutter as a low cost way to dup keys and make keys for re-keying locks. so for a re-key i would have the cylinder out to re-pin and then make keys from.

But i wonder if using space keys would be just as fast and cost less?

Need to save as much as i can for spending more on the Auto HS cutter like the sidewinder II.
Not sure i will be doing much master keying in this area.

Right now all the calls i get are for auto lock outs, Home lock outs, had one business lock that would not lock and two calls for auto keys not working right.
This is all from my website so far. We will not be in the next phone book till next March.

So right now this is a part time business as far as the amount of calls we are getting and it will slow down in winter in this area a lot.

Space and depth keys are always a second generation key. A code key is a first generation key.
