Please call a locksmith in your area.

We just pick locks for fun here, and there's no way we could possibly teach you how to crack a safe via a couple posts over an internet forum. We also don't talk about safes in the public forum, you have to be a long time member in good standing to have access to the safes area. Too many shady people trying to do bad things. And thats another thing, if we help you, some bad guy will come along and read all the instructions and use it for something bad. Best thing to do is call a locksmith, they'll give you a reasonable quote.

Whatever you do, don't start 'fiddling' with it yourself or drilling it or hammering on it, unlike the movies, it won't open and the locksmith fee will double when you break down and call him to open it once its been beat on.

good luck, sorry we couldnt help,

Don't forget that most banks are built around the vault and your new building may need to have a lot of work done to remove it. You will need to pay a contractor to take down walls/ceiling to get it out once you have gotten it opened. Then pay him more to rebuild your building.

If you purchased this building from the original owner, contact them about keys/combinations and check your documents to see if anything specific was mentioned.

Better yet, why would you want to get rid of something as awesome as a vault door in your building? how cool is that? Keep it and use it as a cool conversation piece.

@averagejoe:

Not really... The thing doesn't come out in one piece... Most bank vaults these days are steel lined cast in place heavily re-bar reinforced concrete contraptions... It all gets broken up and cut apart and goes out the door a cart load at a time...

This is all besides the fact that the OP said he merely "moved into" a new building -- not that the OP owns said building... He needs to discuss accessing the vault with his landlord (if he is renting) or with the real estate agent (if he bought the building) so that someone who might know about the combination can be contacted...

Bank vaults are generally very good locks and opening one without the combination requires using destructive techniques and there are often only a few experienced and properly trained experts who can accomplish such openings in a given area and it costs enough not to be something that is done just to get inside the space...

Since it was a bank, there will be smaller cash lockers inside as well as possibly having some depository boxes for customers... Since the OP didn't get the combination to the vault itself, odds are poor that the combos and keys for anything inside the vault will be available either...

another question here, was it not the responsibility of the bank to moved its safe when they vacate the area? (if they still exist)since they were the only one who knows if its cleared or not? in my country,(Philippines) Locksmith cant touch it, without the clearance and representative of the bank.no matter how old its been there. or if the namebank does not exist anymore, then another clearance is required. Is it as easy as that in other countries? just call a locksmith to open it? no offense to anyone.. i just want to broaden my knowledge in regards to safe/vault opening procedure.

@yono:

A vault or safe in a building is under the control of the owner of the building... Unless it is an active bank where contractual terms of a lease and/or federal/state banking laws dictate to the contrary...

Once the bank vacates the premises and leaves a vault or safe behind it becomes the property of the owner of the building (if leased premises) or the new owner who buys the formerly bank owned building from the bank...

It would not matter whether the vault/safe was "cleared" or not, anything left behind when a tenant vacates rented premises or when a property owner sells/transfers ownership of a building anything left in said premises becomes property of the new owner or landlord...

I agree 100% on what squelchtone said! Anytime I walk into a business, that is not a bank, and see a vault, I think to myself "How freakin cool is that!!". I'd love to own a building with a vault in it!

Even cooler would be trying to figure out how to get into it, without the combination! Talk about a challenge!
