Around 18 I guess, I'm not sure. But I have a little cousin and as soons as you can give her tools without having to worry about her swallowing them I'm going to teach her. I know people who've started when they were 8 and peeople who've started when they were 80. It doesn't depend on the age IMHO.

You might want to try this section:
viewforum.php?f=2
It's called "FAQs, and General Information"
If you're finished with the FAQ and stickies you'll just need to get used to the search engine and then you should be sorted for quite a while.

I was 14 when i started picking, and when I started the Foley Belsaw course. It's never too early to start :D (or too late for that matter)

This is one of those things that you pretty much have to talk to your parents about.

Try getting one of them interested in the hobby as well.

Promise to keep your picks at home, and STICK to that promise. There isn't a lot of good reasons to carry them around anyway, and a whole lot of reasons not to.

At any rate, get one of your parents to check out the forums. Let them see how many people are picking locks as a hobby.

We have kids, adults, seniors. Doctors, lab technicians, construction workers, police officers, fire fighters, lawyers and just about anything else you can think of.

It's a growing hobby that interests a large variety of people from all ages and walks of life.

You might be surprised.

But the best thing is to get them to pick with you. Then they know picks arent a "magic key".

I'll give the other extreme on the age spread... I'm 45 and waiting for my picks to be delivered this week.

As a kid I collected quite a few keys and a bunch of old padlocks. I'll be going to my parents home during Christmas and picking them up from where ever Mom has put them away. Hopefully, she has not thrown them out.....

I actually started thinking about what I wanted to do when I retired (or got fed up with this job). I read an article on the /. website one day about lockpicking and eventually googled this site. Working with computers for 20 years has gotten a little bit old.

A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different, because I was important in the life of a boy.

PimpFox, even at your young age, you still need to learn new things.

When I was your age, I took up flying lessons. Too this day, my parent's are still amazed that I was able to accomplish that without thier help.

The funniest part is that I was not old enough to drive a car to the airport. I had to ride my bicycle there, in order to fly a plane through the sky. Yet this was my goal, and I did it!

Be honest with your parents, and show them that you have a desire to excell in all that you attempt. I think they will be very proud of you.

hmm maybe i could just make some of my own picks with some homade things. I read somewhere that someone made picks out of bicycle spokes. I could be able to do that. If it works...
