Postby Nitrosolid15 » 26 Oct 2012 20:37

Hey im knew to picking and i want to start this hobby/skill.I just want to know which one do i need.

Should i get this - http://www.lockpickshop.com/PXS-05L.html

I want to spend as little money as possible but if i really need it i will have no problem taking out the extra cash.

It's good to try out a variety of different shaped picks when you are first starting.

Either kit would serve you fine, in general the first things you want to try out are
hooks (short and long)
half diamonds
a few different rakes
different tension tools

which those sets include. My suggestion would be to buy a bunch of individuals picks and a few tension tools.
if you price them individually, the most basic picks are around 2$ each, and tension tools are cheaper.

It can really pay to get more comfortable / more sturdy picks as soon as you know what you like the most. You will always use a standard hook, so it can be worth it to get a good one from the start. Personally I would stay away from any of the longer rakes, like the one in mpxs08. but that's just me

In short, yes.

I think before you say too much you might benefit by taking a look at this

It's actually helpful, and if you follow the links most of your questions can be answered before you ask them.

I got the first kit you mentioned when I first started. Most likely you will break/bend these until you start buying individual picks and building your pick control. Learn to use a short hook well, it will become your best friend...

I had this kit once. I use picks everyday and it did not last long. I personaly like southord's picks.
