Questions regarding the quality of Goso picks

Postby Medicus » 17 Dec 2012 17:07

Hello, I've been picking as a small off time hobby for a while. I primarily made all of my picks using a grinder and metal pieces from here and there. I've become fed up with making sub standard picks and am split between two sets.

The first set being the PXS-14 from the lockpickshop

The second is a Goso set from China.

I have pretty good experience with the site it self, and that is not my major concern. I'm simply worried about the quality of goso picks, I've heard some good things and some poor things yet I have not found much information concerning the picks and how well they are made.

As for my goals with lock picking, I'm very interested in wafers as well as conventional tumbler locks, so I figure goso may be a decent fit in that aspect, but at the same time I'd like something that would last me a significant amount of time.

Further more I live in a non-humid climate so I'm not all that worried about corrosion or rusting, in the event that these are not stainless steel.

Any information regarding goso, or the sets which I have linked to would be greatly appreciated. Thank you have a wonderful day.

Goso handles are huge and the pick shanks are very thick and dont go into many locks, the Southord will work with most locks. The metal also feels brittle like it may snap while picking.

hope that helps,

The goso picks I have seen were not very comfortable, not sure how their quality stands up. It looks like there are some obvious designs missing (most useful rakes) and a lot of less useful designs included in the goso kit. I think you will be happy with the southord set (southord is having a 30% off sale now on their site HOLLY12 is the coupon code) You can also just add individual picks when you order if you want a more specialized kit - they are cheap when purchased individually.

Have you used them much? I find the handles really comfy, they're not that big. The feedback in my opinion is exceptional, and they hold up surprisingly well to heavy picking... I actually pick really well with them. As for not fitting into locks, the half diamond and rakes are very thick but the hooks are fine. I picked my way through a bunch of locks with them last night including yale, corbin, evva and lockwood. There's not much they won't fit to be honest. I use peterson regularly and also have southord slimlines, but I really love using the goso hooks. I can't see why people complain about them. :|

Whoops, double post time... one thing I will say is that the amount of useless filler stuff in the goso set isn't worth the money. You can buy the hooks seperately (albeit under a different brand name with different handles) for the princely sum of £5. Can't go wrong with that although the wrench supplied really sucks and there's no case.

Thanks everyone, I think I've made my decision and will go with the Southord set. Simply because it seems to be a good solid set.

Thanks again everyone.
