Abus Steel O Chain 810 bicycle lock

Postby IdiotThatLostTheKey » 1 Jan 2013 9:17

Hallo,

Please forgive me if this question has already been answered - but I have searched the Forum quite thoroughly and cannot find any thread dealing with this lock.

It is an Abus Steel O Chain 810 Bicycle lock - and I would love to get it open since I lost the key. I only have a small HPC pick set - but am prepared to buy more tools if it is necessary since we are talking about a pretty expensive bike that I haven't been able to use for almost a year.

I have read the Tutorials on how to pick door locks - based on that description I cannot open the lock ( I have tried). You can't even see if the pins are on the bottom or on the top since there is a view guard covering the lock and the thing turn freely in all directions.

Has anyone here managed to break this lock open... Any tipps or hints?

Any help is much appreciated. I have zero experience - apparts from opening a very simple safe lock as practice and even that was more force/luck than skill.

Best regards,

Vivien.

That isn't a pin tumbler lock, it's a wafer mechanism. From looking at the keys in stock images it's not clear if it's double sided or just single sided with a reversible key, but I'd imagine it's double sided. You should be able to see and feel the wafers clearly.

The part which is spinning is a drill shield... with tension applied, it won't get in the way of picking whatsoever. You can pick it with the tools you have, not the easiest locks in the world but if you know what you're doing and have a little patience it shouldn't be too bad. I've picked similar abus locks for mountain bikes and they take a fair amount of tension so that could be the problem. I don't wanna go into too much detail about picking it cos this is your first post and it's a motorbike lock, not saying you're up to no good but if someone else looking to steal a bike with the same lock on it comes on here and finds specific information, well you get the idea. We don't want to be held accountable for that sort of thing.
