Anyone know the dimensions of Schlage D/B cap pins?

Hi folks,

I need a simple (and quick) way of capping the pin chambers for Master Lock Non-rekeyable padlocks.
The top pin diameter is 0.093". The chamber diameter is just under 0.125.

I've heard some people take regular sized pins and peen them a little to squish them tight in these holes but know there are caps for sub assembled padlocks. Just where to find them without having to turn each one.

There are Schlage deadbolt cap pins listed in some repinning kits. I need to know diameter and length measurements.

Anyone able to measure one for me?

If this is a semi-permanent repair use some epoxy or JBWeld. Or you could simply peen the top of the pin chamber over to somewhat close the holes. Or you could file or saw down a small amount across the length of the pin chamber, place a wire or strip of brass and peen the edges closed. Yes, regular pins placed on a hard piece of steel can be gently and slowly hammered until they are exactly the diameter you want. There are lots of ways to fix this. It all depends on you needs after it is fixed which choice you make.

Thanks for the feedback. I really need the pin dimensions since I need to do a cosmetically perfect job. The locks have had their chambers open, by me to modify one of the pin assemblies.

I could do it by turning 0.125" brass rod stock, but I saw that Schlage deadbolts have cap plugs that might well do the trick. They also have a jig that is used to load the chambers and align the cap plugs to assist in seating them. I will do that in Derlin with guide holes drilled / aligned with the padlock.

So, unless it results in a perfect, undetectable result, it won't do.

If they are brass padlocks you simply flatten a regular pin a bit and hammer it in then use a belt sander or file to smooth it out. Yale also sells the pins but I never use them. Never heard of a Schlage deadbolt using this method. They use a single long cylinder cap.

Are you referring the "cap locking" spring loaded pin that prevents the plug retaining cap from unscrewing?
