Not a lockie, but both of the locks like the one pictured that I have owned had a button that released the bolts to drop into place. If that was not functioning correctly, the problem would be internal. If yours locks with the knob only, then again, it sounds like an internal failure. If you are mechanically inclined, you could try disassembly. If not, contact a locksmith.
