Need help setting up a lock

Postby Martinsc » 16 Feb 2013 22:22

I bought a gun locker and when I went to put to lock on all of the parts inside the lock fell out. I have no experience with locks at all. So I'am wondering if there is a way for any of you to tell me which way the pins go in by looking at some pictures. I tried putting them all in the same way but that did not work.
Thanks for any help.

Ok can someone also tell me how to add pictures I have taken with my ipad in this post?

Have you considered Photobucket or Imageshack, both which support mobile iOS filesystems?

You can try lining up the wafers on the key, placing them so that the tops and bottoms all line up. We're there no springs? Some don't have springs.

You can also put the wafers into the plug one at a time, and see if the wafer is the right size when you put in the key. The wafer should not stick out above or below the plug when the key is inserted. When all the wafers are installed in the correct place, just slip the plug back into the shell, and put on the rest of the stuff.

Good luck!

Gordon

You can get it working yourself.

You have to get all the wafers lined up with shear line when the key is in the cylinder. This is little more demanding than with pin tumblers because the key goes through wafers instead just putting the right pin in the right place. But the principle is same, when the key is in with all wafers the cylinder must be able to rotate inside the lock housing.

You have 10 wafers and your key has different depth cuts. Sort those wafers so that you know what size goes to the tip of the key, that is the one which you have most. You can try one wafer at time, it might be easier so. And make notes which place they belong

Look closely your lock housing and figure out what way those wafers go in.

You should be able to put it back together, there might be some more tips coming from more experienced members too.

Good luck and let us know how it went!

Ok thanks for the help I will give that a try. I don't believe that it had springs but they may have shot out without me noticing.
