Key Cross reference for General Lock

Postby Bean44 » 3 Mar 2013 10:25

I have a question concerning the General Lock Keyway 100-A800 for key blank substitute. I do have the Ilco G190M and two others, G193 and G199 in the Taylor brand. But was wondering if another brand Like Yale, Corbin or Sargent has a comparable blank. I would also like to obtain one of the actual General Lock Mortise cylinder with this keyway to use as a Trial Cylinder if anyone has some laying around on the shelf or tool box that they would like to sell.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Raymond

In a word -- NO.

Yale, Corbin, and Sargent all have their own keys / keyways. The only way to get an aftermarket blank for most locks is to buy it from a lock supplier, and you will get Ilco, Jet, or you can try somebody like Custom Key - they may have something.

Cylinder wise, they are rare today, so you may be out of luck. Try using something more common like a Schlage mortise lock, in one of the classic keyways. (C - E - F) Don't try for one of the odd classics, (CE - EF - FG - G) you won't find many on the open market. The "quad" keyways, like 1246, 1348, or on into 1468 are not available outside the trade, and rarely at that.

Update on the General Lock mortise cylinders with the exact keyway that I needed, I found 4 of them on ebay on a "make an Offer" deal. They were asking 15.00 each and I offered to buy all 3 for 6.00 each with a 5.00 shipping and just got them in today Yahoo!

Thanks for the info that you did give and for sharing.

Sincerely,
