Why do door reinforcers have holes around the cylinder

Postby Taneda » 16 Apr 2013 19:32

I'm trying to install a deadbolt in a hole that is slightly too large. I purchased a door reinforcer thinking it would cover the excess parts of the hole. However, I've noticed that the reinforcer has four half-circle shaped holes around the main hole for the cylinder. If anyone could tell me why this is I would very much appreciate it, because I just can't figure if out. Thanks a lot.

The door reenforcer you are using is probably designed to also accept knobs or levers. Knobs and levers usually have small protrusions, some sharp and some only dimples, that would fit into the cut-outs. The purpose is to prevent the lock from moving or the front rose from being unscrewed after the lock is tightened on the door.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

It is normal for them to have two notches placed horizontally on either side of the door to accept the barb on knobs that helps prevent the roses from unscrewing.
