Can't Raise 5th pin?

Postby AshokaTano » 25 Apr 2013 3:23

Ive been working on my Abus 83/50 with a 6 pin schlage cylinder, my problem is alot of the time i can pick the first 4 pins within a min, however the 4th has a deep cut, with the 5th being a really shallow cut, so trying to get under the 5th is proving difficult, the problem is not over setting as the cylinder at this point had rotated enough it takes quite a considerable amount of force for me to over set, Ive read another post saying im using to much tension but half the time working on the 5th pin i don't even ave my hand on the tension wench and the 5th pin wont lift

Abus puts spool pins in their padlocks, make them a pain to pick. Generally they are only in couple chambers.

I am going to second what Aaron has said, your running into spool's by the sounds of it, try a different picking rotation possibly? (Instead of doing #5 last, try it somewhere else in the rotation if possible)

I agree that you are running into security pins. You have to let up on your tension enough to let you set the pin, but not so much that you loose the set on the other pins. I found this video to be very helpful when I was first learning security pins.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3H2rK-3FaQ
