Aust Lockwood c4 key cut to kw1 or sc1 blank?

Postby johno75 » 4 Jun 2013 0:53

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anybody knows if an Australian Lockwood c4 key can be cut to a kwikset kw1 or schlage sc1 blank? If so which one.

My son is super keen on superman so I want to get him a house key cut on a superman blank like here

[url]http://www.frenzkeys.com/SUPERMAN-SHIELD-House-Key-SUPERMAN1.htm[url] (unless anyone in Australia sells them??)

But I have to choose sc1 or kw1 and not sure which I need.

My key doesn't have anything stamped on it other than Lockwood but the locksmith when he changed the locks said it was a c4 pin tumbler.

I can post a pic of my house key if I will help.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Johno

Please don't post a picture of your house key, someone can make a copy of that key and would be able to let themselves into your house, not a good thing :)

KS1 will fit in a lot of the LW4 profile locks but there are some that it is a bit tight on. At the cost of the key you can always buy the blank and see if it fits into your locks properly, if it does get it cut, if not your son can still have it for his key ring :)

I looked up what the Australian suppliers have and none of them have a Superman blank in C4 so you are out of luck there.

the simple answer is "yes" however...

I agree with lunchbox on the possibility of it being tight in some barrels.

KW1 is the most common keyway in the world and C4 is the Ezycut/Edmonds choice for KW1 in Australia

I respectfully disagree. I think Y1 or YA1, the Yale keyway with all its small variations would be the most common.
I have around 900 different blanks and I don´t carry KW1. :D

perhaps I should rephrase that...

KW1 is probably the most widely offered profile in the world. More markets use products that have the KW1 profile. I have lived on 4 continents and have seen it used all over. Whereas yale is certainly popular but not as much in recent years (last 15 years)

For the best place I would have to say mysef :) :)

I'm out North if that helps.

I vote for a real Locksmith.

Locksmith, but try to make the copy from an original key not a copy.
