I needed to decode the cuts of a schlage key last night but did not have a schlage key gauge. Does anybody know what the measurments should be on a caliper. example. keycode #1=0.250, #2=0.209, etc. If anybody could help me with this problem that would be appriciated.

you had the key and couldn't copy it straight off, or you wanted a record to carry away, keys can be pressed into foil, paper, plastic hard foam, various waxes clays and heat setting plastic from the artists store, and for the spooks who only need to carry the information for a few minutes, you can press an impression of a key into your skin and have it last 5 minutes, it can later be dusted with white or black powder for reading. Just a thought, I didnt know what the situation was that you needed to record this info for.

What is this key to, and why do you only have access to it at night?

Ow I'm not planning anything illegal. My mom works during the day and so when she gets back I fiddle with them. And I'm currently practising cutting keys by hand. So I figured I'd play around with hers'.

I wasn't sure that you were, it just sounded bad.
Better to state the reason that let the even more paranoid people think these things.
Just be sure to have your mom's permission.

Is that what you call it?
Anyway, I think this illustrates very well why I am so long winded. I never like it when people can take my writing in several different ways. I like to be very clear about things.
Most of the time.
