Need help with Curtis #15 code cuter

Postby Nitrous » 20 Nov 2013 16:57

Hi guys,

I have a Clipper Code Cutter that I'd like to use with Master Padlocks. I understand that the Cam/Carriage sets for this are discontinued. M1 or M2 sets. I have a 47 degree punch (on the side of the tool - this came from a Hyundai Dealership) on this cutter.

What I'm wonder is whether anyone happens to know the depth of cut to cam relationship so that I could make my own set. I have CNC mill as well as metal Lathe at home. I think the spacing carriage part would be relatively easy to adjust to my Master Padlock blank.

Any advice/information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

Best bet is to call Hawley Lock Supply.. you might actually be able to just buy the cam and carriages you need.

Here is M2 used set for sale $99
http://hawleylocksupply.com/Merchant2/m ... _Code=CUCC

M-1 used cam: http://hawleylocksupply.com/Merchant2/m ... de=CU-CAMS

M-2 used cam: http://hawleylocksupply.com/Merchant2/m ... de=CU-CAMS
M-2 used carriage: http://hawleylocksupply.com/Merchant2/m ... -CARRIAGES

Looks like he doesn't have M-1 carriage listed, but wouldn't hurt to call them up. ebay is another place to keep an eye out for these parts.

good luck,

Thanks Squelchtone,

I called Hawley Lock this afternoon but the guy on the phone was a little confused.
Someone on ebay thought that the SQ-1 was an equivalent but I don't know. Will wait for Hawley to get back to me. I wonder if I can get some specs on the cams to see if I can set one up on the CNC. The carriage looks like it could be knocked off with a little brass milling.

Thanks again,
Doug

I have used a Curtis clipper with the master cam and carriage ( fits the M1 blank). while I have had EXCEPTIONAL results with the Curtis on most automotive code key cutting, The master padlock set up leaves much to be desired, My opinion is don't waste your money. Get or make a set of space and depth keys use them until you can afford a 1200 or a Framon code machine.

Doug:
I have the Curtis Model 14 Cams & wheel to Cut Master Padlocks and they work great.
I also have the Curtis Model 15 M1 & M2 Cams and Carriages for Master Padlocks and they work great.
The SQ-1 and SQ-2 Cams and Carriages are to cut Squire Padlock Keys. As far as I know they will not cut Master Padlock Keys.
Hopes this helps.

Doug:
Don again.
I forget to mention that the Master Padlock Keys are cut using a 45 Degree cut Not the 47 you have.
