fitting mortice lock into aluminium door

Postby minifhncc » 14 Dec 2013 21:56

Hi all,

I need to cut out a part of an aluminium door to fit a mortice lock.

What tools should I use so that I can get a rectangular shaped cut out of the door?

Thanks

I would use a Dremel tool or a jigsaw. A Dremel with a cutoff wheel for the straight cuts, with a diamond bit to grind the corners.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

But how would I use a jigsaw? I think the hard part would be getting the first cut in. Do you understand what I mean?

Thanks

Drill a hole first.

Are we talking about a storefront door with an A/R lock? Could you be more specific?

If doing the A/R those take a few minutes with a jig and router.
