Postby josh4958 » 19 Jan 2014 9:14

Good day,
Looking for some help on getting the correct ID of a key way so I can buy some blanks.

Thanks Josh

Not sure what Medeco BiAxial cam keyway that is, but it looks like the same keyway used in Knox Box fire department key safes around here. :?

OP, is this lock in use right now? Can you show us a photo of it removed from your cabinet? Or with cabinet door open?

Do you already have a key but need more made? You would need a special machine to cut more keys so getting blanks wont help much, unless you really know how Medeco locks work.

This is a side view, I have no key. It was a E-bay purchase. Just one to play with.

@josh4958:

There are a small few Medeco keyways for which aftermarket blanks are available...

Perhaps you will be lucky but probably not... No Medeco authorized dealer will provide you with a Medeco BiAxial keyblank, ever... They are still under contract with Medeco to only provide cut keys to customers with the proper ID cards for each bitting, even though the patent protection has expired...

The best you could hope for would be to have the lock re-keyed to a new bitting and being issued a pair of new keys and an ID card which would allow you to obtain additional keys in the future if needed...

Evan,
Thanks for the input. I was trying to avoid the rekey, but I think you are correct. Still have some hope.

well, this wont help but at least I can tell you it was made in the 3rd quarter of 1996 =)

Medeco date codes are A, B, C, D and the 'xx for the year. C is the 3rd quarter of their production year.

Best bet is to spend $20 more bucks on ebay and get one with keys this time ;-)
