What do you use to sand picks(to remove rough edges)? Also, will HPC picks lose their black coating is you sand them?

Use sandpaper, up to 600 grit. Then if you like, you can use polishing compound.

And yes, HPC picks will lose the black coating. You won't miss it.

You can use most any brand instant gun bluing solution to restore the black finish
to your HPC picks.
Just be sure to follow directions and use cold water to stop the process , then oil.
It also helps to put on a few coats of carnauba car wax to keep the black from coming off.
