Last Pin of Lock keeps on becoming unset

Postby parkourer » 5 Feb 2014 15:14

Hey,

This is my first post. I am new to this forum. :D I am also new to lockpicking, and really want to improve my skills. Last week my pick (c rake) and tension wrench arrived in the mail. I tested this out on my master lock. I learned how to rake (i think), and raked it until there was only one pin left. That last pin will not set, however, whenever i push it up, it just comes down again. I read that you have to lower the tension if a pin won't move, but this last pin will move, it just won't set. Sometimes it sets for a few seconds, then just pops down again. I tried increasing the tension, but that doesn't work either. (No matter what the tension level, it just pops down.) :x There must be something i am doing wrong, because on my friends door lock i tried, and i could rake, and SPP the lock. I can't SPP very well on this master lock because its too small. Could you guys tell me what you think the problem is? Could it be the type of pick? Or could it be something else?

Thanks for any reply :D

Mike

B.T.W, this is a video that a guy made picking the exact lock i have trouble with. He uses the exact same c rake as me :p (I think).

One of two things could be happening, if this lock is in perfectly working order.

1. One or more pins are over set over the shear line and it's not allowing the last pin to bind properly.

2. That pin is already set, some are over set in the other cylinders and the lock won't open because those pins are over set.

Advice for raking a lock open from me. Hold tension with enough pressure (as much as pressing down a key on your keyboard) and give it a good ten fast strokes in and out, jiggle the rake up and down a couple of times a bit, and the lock should open. If this doesn't work, release the tension and try it again. Raking is about as random as it gets in terms of how fast you can open it because when you rake, the raking motion doesn't always work.

Here's a video that should help you on raking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GQbCjo0Zdg

If you have any other questions, let me know.

EDIT:
PS: one thing you should know about raking is that, it doesn't always work either. Keys with high low high low key pins are at times way harder to open than alets say low medium low low medium.
