Ford transit lock building

Postby j4ysonic » 15 Aug 2014 15:51

I need some help with building a ford lock (for my job)
I am a mechanic and work on a fleet of rental vehicles that sometimes I have to gain entry too and build new locks for .
The new ford transits no longer come with tibbe locks which were easy to build they now have flat "laser cut" style keys.

I have the key,key number and a new ford supplied door lock kit which comes as a kit of parts.
My problem is that the key number only has five numbers and the lock has ten wafers
My key number also has two numbers that are not stamped on any of the wafers :?
the ford parts dealer can not tell me how to build the lock and neither can fords technical help line.
I managed to get assembly instructions from ford etis but I still have no idea how to get the wafer numbers from the key number.

Below is a pic from etis
Image

There are two numbers on each wafer 1 to 5 on the lower edge
And 1,2,3,4,5,11,13,14,15 on the other end.
Sample of some of the wafers

I have searched the web but have found nothing but HU101 picks (which come payday I shall add to my tool box)

The five digit code with the keys is just that... a code. It does not tell you the bitting of the key. You would need code software to tell you the bitting.

Can't go into any real detail on the open forum, but if you flip the wafer over, it becomes the other bitting.

Measure the cuts from the key, compair them to the wafer heights, and you should be able to build it right.
The cuts are: ( in thousands of inch)

1=178
2=155
3=131
4=108
5=83
Hope this helps!

You could always file whatever wafer you have. Then whichever wafer you have will become the correct size. :wink:
