First lock

Hi, i've just read this post (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1744)
and my problem is this: "I have just started picking but cannot get through lock xzy?
You need to find a picture of the lock, some specifications, and the exact model else we are blowing in the wind. I would suggest dropping this lock and going with a practice lock recommended below"
i will buy a practice lock, i have to search it but in the meantime i would like to understand what i'm doing wrong, here's the photo:
http://imgur.com/a/xbjXu
first: how many pin this lock has? i think 4 looking and the key after reading some other posts but i'm not sure!
second: i'm 100% sure that i pick the first two pin, after that i don't know, i always see one pin that i can't pick and behind that i don't understand what is happening, it seems that the main problem is that i don't have enough space, it's possible?
ps: the brand is "bullit" i cannot find it on the internet, i bought it at a local italian locksmith

That lock has 5 pins. Also, that Chinese padlock sometimes comes with security pins. You can do a quick search here and find out how to deal with them.

It looks like you are putting too much of your finger surface area on the tension wrench.. too much pressure is something many beginners do. press down on the wrench as if you are typing on a computer keyboard.

I learned to type on a manual typewriter before moving on to a mechanical teletype keyboard. I probably wouldn't get very far if I treated a tension wrench the way I still treat most keyboards. 8)

If you find my insistence that you pay me to do something unreasonable, you probably shouldn't be bothering me at work.

Nothing, i have tried a lot, less tension etc... and i have read all the guide, now i'm 100% sure that i can't pick only that pin it's for sure a security pin, when i release the tension wrench i hear the click of 4 pins...
what can i do?

Set that lock aside for the moment. You will come back to it soon enough.

Get yourself a Master No. 3 padlock. It is 4 pins, has no security pins, and is a great lock to learn to pick with. Once you are used to opening Master padlocks, you will be ready to start learning about security pins.

I understand the theory behind being able to pick a Kaba Quattro, and have some moderate skill at picking. That does not mean I have ever succeeded in picking one.

You can also go get a cheap Kwikset deadbolt (not a Smartkey) and take it apart. Follow the progressive pinning exercises here on the site, and you will see your skills grow.

Masterlock no.3 great beginner's lock. It has helped me get a good feel on SPP. I'm a newbie. Only been picking for a couple weeks.

Good day,

I find myself in a similar position. I have been going back and forth on some locks and I seemed to get worst as I get forward until I realized one thing.....you just can't pick any lock and think they are the same. I was bouncing back and forth between a four and five pins and I am pretty sure right now that my 5 pins has security ones and as such my "touch" seems to get worst.

I am backing up a bit and learning a bit more about what kind of locks I have since those I had found around and did not know anything about them. At least I am having fun.

Keep on picking
