Master lock #3 disassembley

Postby Smrtz » 5 Oct 2014 15:56

I'm trying to take apart an old #3 that I found on the street. I know in previous threads people here recommend not wasting my time with it because I won't gain anything out of it, but I'm doing it just to learn how to take one apart.

I've ground off the rivets on the bottom, and that didn't work, so now I'm trying to just grind off the whole bottom plate. I'm inside now letting it cool, but before I go back out there and waste any more time on doing it wrong, is there a better way?

Once the rivits are ground off, try using a chisel and hammer to split the bottom layer from the other layers. ;)

Try it from the other end, the pins are tapered and only come out one way,
but can be driven out.

You just need to get that bottom plate off.

I'm with Gordon. Just find a Cold Chisel that will fit behind the bottom lamination and beat it to heck working your way around the outside.

Yeah, the bottom ball like rivets will have to be drilled off or scraped off somehow. Then after that, remove the plates and voila. Gutted Master Lock.

Parental Advisory... You might end up playing with the guts of the lock..... LoL.. had to say it. Halloweens almost here

We used to grind off the rivits and pry up the last laminated plate with an old screwdriver. When you get done you can remove another plate and bash the bottom one back on.
I have some luggage mills that grind the outside of the rivits off, so if you wanna really work your butt off you can rekey these one time & then just bash the rivits again.
