Hello all! Are there any tried and true ways to identify master ring cylinders? I have just discovered these and they seem very interesting. Wouldn't mind adding one to my collection and someday picking it. I just wasnt sure if there were any external clues. Also, which companies manufacture these? I know corbin, corbin russwin, and prison lock such as rr brinks, folger adams. Am i missing any?

The Corbin master ring cylinders are larger than a standard mortise cylinder. They are quite an interesting way of master keying a lock. Gordon

Gwiens2001 found a corbin on ebay that the seller says is 1 5/8 inch. Does that sound about right for one? I think the common sizes are 1" and 1 1/4"? I can post a picture of it here when I get a chance. I am correct in thinking that these are more secure than typical masterkeying? Sorry so many questions, these really interest me.

Do you mean larger diameter cylinders? Or length - because most high security manufacturers will have "longer" cylinders available. Also Schlage (i think) have a sectional cylinder that can be "adjusted" to the required length.

well you and I know that, but I think OP is actually seeing 1 inch or 1-1/4 and thinking that is diameter when those numbers sure sound like 5 and 6 pin cylinder lengths, while the typical mortise cylinder is what, like 1-1/8 diameter? OP here is a sure fire way to find a master ring Corbin, look for their Jumbo cylinder format: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111589234153if you look at the back of that cylinder on ebay, you can see the master ring behind the cam. Thanks squelchtone, thats the exact lock that I saw on ebay, I see what you mean about the master ring. I meant diameter. I assumed that master ring cyclinders had a larger diameter. I asked a few sellers if their locks were master ring and they didnt know. So i started asking about diameter. I recieved a two answers of 1" or 1 1/4", figured those were common diameters. I wasnt aware those would be length measurements, but Im glad to be better informed.
