I got home about an hour ago and found out that the lock on my moms car and her boyfriends vehicle were broken. When in the elevator I asked some of the residents if their car had been broken into. Many said yes, however the theif wasn't intelligent at all. They ripped the lock off and turned it. This unlocks and locks the vehicle simply by turning the entire lock. They also broke into a car which wasn't even locked. When they got into my moms vehicle the threw papers around and stole a half-burnt cigarette. I don't see the point. If your gonna brake into a car, at least make sure that there's something worth stealing.

car thieves dont think like that unfortunately, they just think its worth breaking into if the risk of getting caught is low just to have a look for anything of value. If the risk of getting caught or the cars security was better they would maybe think twice. Over the years ive been a victim of this sort of crime quite a few times, now i just go totally overboard about security on my property before anything happens. Just had a custom made security grill which i could only just lift made to protect my shed, this cost as much as the shed with the locks added . Over the top maybe but i know any thief trying to get in is sure gonna have to work hard to steal anything without making a whole heap of noise.

The same with my door. I have a deadbolt and a hole on the bolt so that I can put a pin in it to prevent opening while I'm home. A chain lock, and a sliding bolt.

It's funny because about a week earlier they installed ONE camera in another part of the garage. Not near our end.

the thieves probably used a screw driver to break into them if all the locks were broken off.....

Force turning locks in an auto requires one or two of the following:

1. Pretty high strength.
2. Very good leverage.

Most auto locks are form fitted into the doors, so unless some well-thought physics were used, I don't know if I'd wanna meet the criminal that could turn a lock just by inserting a screwdriver and turning with bare hands. :shock:

a right angled screw driver is use the long side is about 15ins long so giving a lot of leverage all that is needed is body weight, not strengh.sorry guys but a 10 year old could do it

Theyr was a dateline ( News Show in USA) where they talked about car theft. They armed a locksmith with a bent screw driver and filmed him. The results were scary, very scary.
