HON L002 lock

Postby Bahizzle » 21 Jul 2015 20:07

Hello, I have a HON 2-story filing cabinet that I cant seem to get into. The cylinder says L002 on it, and the cylinder also pushes in when pressure is put on it. I've tried searching google, and youtube, and cannot find a guide for this model lock or cylinder. I feel like a filing cabinet should be easier than a sentry safe, and I have no problem lockpicking those. Any help is much appreciated.

With sensitive area locks such as safe locks, car ignition, vending machines, school lockers, or file cabinets. We like to be helpful here but like to also check that we aren't helping out someone who may not be authorized to be opening a certain lock.

Can you tell us more about the circumstances? Is it at work? did you buy it at a yard sale? Do you have the key but are just practicing picking or do you need to get into it?

If you post a photo of the lock we can tell you if it is a wafer lock or a pin tumbler lock, to post a photo upload it to imgur.com and Paste the link here.

or you can just buy the key on ebay... http://www.ebay.com/itm/121468990473

Thanks,

I bought the empty filing cabinet at a garage sale about 4 months ago with the keys. During my move, I somehow lost the keys, and have a few important papers that I need to get to. I'd rather not purchase another key because I don't like purchasing things online with my credit card. I'd also not like to break the filing cabinet if that is possible aswell.

Here are some pictures. Sorry that the quality is bad due to the flash, but I hope this helps.

Reason: 2,500 x 1,900 pixel photos a bit too large to display in line, changed the IMG tags to URL links.

I gotta say, that's one of the biggest wives tales I know, that people dont shop online because it's not safe. I've been buying and selling on the internet for 15 years and have never had an issue. I had one friend who got their Amazon.com account hacked once and they got her card number, but I think she had a very simple account password like "password1"

ebay and Paypal are very safe, my Paypal is linked right to my bank account, so I have high faith in it.

If you are still weary of buying stuff online, I suggest getting over it and just buying this key, otherwise if you have a ton of free time, you'll need to learn how to pick this lock. It is a pin tumbler, so a little harder to pick than a wafer lock, such as the kind you'd find on a cheap tool box or cheap file cabinet.

If you contact that seller (you'll have to make an ebay account), sometimes they'll still accept a good old fashioned USPS money order, which is the way we paid for things on ebay before Paypal came along. never hurts to ask.

What brand/model of pick set are you using and in that pick set which pick shape are you using? a half diamond or S-rake would work well on that lock. Sentry safes (fire proof boxes) are crap in general and the locks on those are typically easy to pick wafer locks (but that statement varies by model)

You have the advantage of looking at that ebay ad I linked to see what the key cuts look like, which will tell you how far to lift each pin. Or just insert the S rake, apply medium tension clockwise, and pull the pick out of the lock real fast. I have come to know this is called "zipping" by many folks who pick locks for fun.

good luck,

Everything squelch said, or you can go to a local locksmith give them the key number. They'll cut you a key and you can pay with cash.
