medeco biaxial disassembly

Postby slack96 » 25 Aug 2015 14:44

I have a medeco biaxial KIK cylinder, and I can't figure out how to take it apart so I can take some pins out to practice. I got it new on eBay with the key, this is the URL www.ebay.com/itm/171687798908

Hopefully the pictures on the eBay listing of the cylinder and of the info on the box will help give you guys an idea of what I'm working with. I was really hoping you or someone could help tell me how I can take this apart or what tools I need. I'm actually living in a college dorm right now, so I don't have many tools at my disposal, but I usually can figure something out. I will greatly appreciate the help.

Hi,
The link doesn't seem to be working. It looks like it might be entered incorrectly?

You can take it apart pretty much like any other non-high-security KIK cylinder if you have a plug follower and the keys. There are just a few more parts to lose if you're not careful, compared to a regular lock. They use balanced pin stacks, more or less, so make sure to keep track which top pins go with which bottom pins as you set them aside.

If you don't know how to take apart a regular KIK cylinder, there are instructions in the forum stickies and tutorials, just browse around. I'm not going to bore everyone and reinvent the wheel by describing it again here.

You can also pry the brass strip off the top, hammer it flat and try to peen it back again afterwards, but this method is not conducive to repeated disassembly.

I have done a lot of research on this forum and on youtube and I understand how to do all of it, except for how to get the plug out. there is no C clip on the back, its some other oddly shaped piece if metal that keeps the plug in place and also hold the tail piece in. I just can't figure out how to remove it. if the link didn't work, the box says its a medeco biaxial, Part No. 20W0101, keyway G3, and it also says knob lock Schlage C. All I need to do is figure out how to get off the piece that is holding the plug in and I can do the rest.

A picture would help. I've seen ones with the little knurled caps that have the spring loaded pin that has to be pushed in. I think it's probably a little clip that has to be squeezed and pushed out. Or it could be one with a pin that has to be punched out. I don't really have any more ideas without seeing a picture of the problem.

Have also seen e-clips holding them in. Pics would really help.

OP.. its a clip shaped like the symbol for Pi that is just pushed into the back of the plug, pry that silver bit*ch out, that's it.

Look at page 26 of this PDF http://nynex.s5.com/TOOOL-US-Boston/PDF ... nder-1.pdf

Ah, yes. Thanks squelchtone for fixing that.
For this type of clip, I pinch it with needle nose pliers, it comes out easier, and you won't ruin it. This type of clip is more common on rim cylinders, particularly yales.

Yes thats the one! I have never seen anything like it before and it seemed so much tougher to get off and I didn't want to accidentally damage the lock. Thank you guys so much, hopefully ill be on my way to opening a medeco.

I hate those clips!! I have a handful of Yale cylinders that use them.
