Clear cylinder for inserting cutaway locks

Postby ballstone » 11 Sep 2015 10:50

Hi,

I have a set of 4 cutaway locks (just the cores) of different types. It's tricky to hold or clamp these in a way where I can still peek at the pins when needed. They sell cutaway locks molded in plastic, but I'm looking for something where the lock is removable. It's not an easy thing to google for!

Thx,
Eric

a pic of the cores you have would help,
are they KIK of IC's ?
stay away from the Clear "Padlocks" for picking they scratch very easy.

I'm not sure if they are KIK or IC or a mix. I suppose the bore of the plastic cylinder could be as wide as the largest core. I could shim the smaller cores on the non-cutaway side.

Here's a photo

Those are KIKs. Some of the keys look homemade. I'm not sure that what you want is even produced anywhere. You could try holding them like Schuyler does. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQVsI4qyl3g

Harbor Freight has this ridiculous cheap suction vise that someone else in here suggested. You can get a 20% off coupon almost anywhere and with a thin piece of leather or some other material to provide a bit of friction to keep it from moving and you can now hold just about any lock you have in almost any position you want to including cutaways.
