Do Pins Always Set in the Same Order?

Postby AngryHatter » 15 Sep 2015 1:32

Example - back pin sets first then third pin etc.
Will this pattern always hold true for this lock?

No, it will not always hold true.

That said, if you are picking the same lock (not the same model with the same key, but the same exact lock), the binding order should remain somewhat the same when picked in the same direction. The order will change (usually reverse) when the lock is picked in the opposite direction.

I have also found that depending on how i tension, the order might change.
Some times i change, when using tension tools withe diferent depth.

Yes, but theoretically it shouldn't change the binding order.

Where you apply tension (TOK or BOK) can cause changes in binding order. Not a great change, but yes it can change.

Depends on how tight or how loose the machining tolerances are. A lock with loose tolerances can have 2 or more pins that have equal set probability.
