Pinning tray / mat

Postby redjello » 16 Oct 2015 17:01

Hey guys Ive lurked your threads for years so this is my first year. I started with a bogota which lead me to spp. Then i wanted cutaways but didnt want to pay for them so i bought a mini mill. Ive made some decent cutaways but this is mt favorite creation made from scrap aluminum. My milling techniques are sub par but im getting better. Thank you Lockpicking101 for enabling/supporting my hobby. Image

That looks awesome! I wish I had better metal working skills and some mills and lathes.

since that's aluminum, I bet it would look even more kick-ass if it was anodized, but it still looks pretty kick-ass.

Kudos and welcome to the posting side of the forum,

I think your tray looks cool, Its hard to tell from the photo though the dimensions. What is the size and weight of this?

Another great pinning tray. So many good ideas, so little money. Wish I had a mill. Thank you for sharing. :D

Here is another picture for perspective. Ive been using the corrugated cardboard but this motivates me to re-pin all my practice locks. If you look around you can find mills going pretty cheap. Still looking for other uses for it though.

Tell me about it. Around here you can get a lot of machinery for free, if only I had a place to put a 23 ton metal lathe. I just want something that fits in my basement, but so does everyone else, and that's the problem. Nice looking pinning tray! 8)

Thanks. Yeah, my milling sucks. I can measure precisely but i cant seem get those polishing finishing passes down. I think i need to cut the last pass in the direction of the rotating blade or something. Still figuring out how my backlash actually affects my cuts. Also, my cutaways are boring as heck, crap compared to king cutaway Snowboy. I never know how to disassemble a padlock without wrecking it. Thats the hardest part for me.

That was my first attempt. I stopped milling at 4 rows for some reason. Must of been anxious to finish or something. If somebody can make use of it ill trade it for a decent padlock so i can practice milling locks.
