Master Pro series 6831?

Postby SHACKLETACKLE » 31 Oct 2015 15:27

I'm a Newby, Newer than a pair of shoes that have never been laced up. I removed the cylinder of the lock and removed the tools and the bar that impedes the removal of the cylinder is protruding. Therefore I cannot put the cylinder back in place. The cylinder has holes in the underside thru which I can reach the pins. When I try to SPP it mounted in a hobby vice The jaws of the vice seems to put pressure on the cylinder. Should I try shimming the cylinder? I think this lock must have some security pins. Am I right? All help appreciated but keep it simple please. Thanks

Yes on security pins. Clamp your lock cylinder by the bible (the narrow part where the springs are, not by the shell that the plug fits into.

I think the lock he has is an sfic lock. That would explain why he said he "can't put it back in because the bar that impedes the removal of the cylinder is protruding". In this case, it likely wouldn't have security pins.

This one right?

If you want to learn about how these work, just search up SFIC cylinder.
Is your goal to get it back together?

That makes sense, Kwosalt.

Do you have any shims from a security tag? If so, you can shim the control shear line from the back of the core. Then you can close the control lug and reinstall the core. Like this...

Get a shim from a security tag, and shim the control shear line from the back of the lock.

Shim it until the control lug turns. It will only turn at the control shear line, so simplifies the process.

Thanks for the QRs. I'll search for the SFIC, have no clue about that. The cylinder is engraved MBS above the key hole. I'll search some DVDs for some shim material. Good idea to relieve one pin at a time to train on. Each pin feels very gritty, no smooth ones at all. The slightest of tension will lock up a couple of pins from falling down or allow vertical movement

Thanks for your help

MBS, Marshall Best Security, as in Best locks. Synonymous with the SFIC.

Marshall Best is the grandson of Frank Best, who founded Best Lock and invented the SFIC.

Thanks, for the info. I got the cylinder picked to control and reassembled it. Used vice grips to hold cylinder. and picked thru the holes in bottom of cylinder and a paper clip. First time I've heard pins snap at the shear line. What a nice sound. Proof that Even a "Blind hog can find an acorn".
