How do I open this lock so I can repin it?

Postby gsingh93 » 4 Nov 2015 3:58

I've opened my Schlage deadbolt lock to repin it. I've only repinned a practice lock before, not an actual lock used on a door. The problem is, the back of the cylinder doesn't look like any of the ones in the videos I've seen. I've pasted links to some photos below, does anyone know how to open this?

Is there a "+" on the front side of the lock? If so it may be a "SecureKey", a lock that doesn't need disassembly to be rekeyed. You just need its "blue" key.

Cheers :)

definitely a SecureKey lock. I would replace it.

I've never seen the inside of a securekey, all I know is they're a lot easier to pick than the smartkeys.

Ah, it is a SecureKey! I guess I'll just replace it, thanks.

Actually there is plenty of room in the lock housing to just slip a real schlage pin cylinder into it

Blank blue keys or rekey kits are fairly available on eBay.

If you're looking for a fun challenge, though, these can be disassembled for repair/rekey. Believe there's gut shots on Lockwiki, or I have some to post.

Requires a fair bit of knowledge about how these work, mechanical aptitude and patience, though.
