what type of lock is this - based on the key

Hi,
Need to get into an old payphone mechanism and I need to pick the lock. The keys were regional, in that the key fitted all mechanism locks within a postal district.

similar item on ebay above shows the key in the photos

If you've never picked a lock before, you're not gonna be able to pick that lock. Payphones around the world were made to be impenetrable little fortresses.

It is a lever lock with a flat key, 7 levers I think, which is not something a beginner has a chance of opening.

A payphone collectors forum would probably be a better bet to help you get into it or have a professional locksmith drill it out unless that would ruin the historical value. I doubt you want a modern lock fitted into your nice old phone.

good luck with your project!

Thanks for the identification, I am still trying collectors but these keys were regional so quite a few to try.
Again thanks for the response
