springs

Postby fatchic » 17 Dec 2015 18:05

I was recently re-keying a Schilage and the springs all flew out. I am now wanting to order springs. I only could find one site (Schilage site) selling springs, but now I'm confused because there are standard short, standard long and untangled long. Can anyone help me understand the difference and which ones I should order. Thank You

Long for Schlage. Untangle long is ok.

Short springs are 1/2" long and are used in Kwikset and a lot of imports. ASSA uses 1/2" springs. Long ones are I believe 3/4" long. Standard springs will clump together and tangle. The tangle resistant have a few winds in the middle that are tight together. That keeps them from getting tangled as bad. The tangle resistant by nature of of the design will have a slightly different spring rate than the standard springs but for locks you'll never tell the difference. If you're only needing a few springs, and you order just 1 pack, you'll probably end up paint close to 8 bucks because of shipping. I have a ton of springs. If you want to PM me an address, I'll stick some in a letter envelope and send it to you.

Depends if it was a Schlage F-line with the collapsible bible.

F line has T pins doesn't it? And uses the short springs?

The springs aren't just short, they also have a larger opening at each end, so they will fit around the t-pin
and the other end locates itself inside the collapsible bible. I have spent plenty of time trying to make the
wrong springs fit & work correctly & it is no fun
