Jagged euro keyhole

Postby Thanshin » 29 Jan 2016 3:04

After learning the basics with a transparent padlock and two other big but bad chinese padlocks, I've bought this:
https://locksaway.co.uk/6-pin-euro-cutaway-lock

Now my problem is that the keyhole is too thin and jagged for my cheap goso picks. I can fit the picks inside, but I almost can't maneuver them. I often feel resistance to lifting by touching the walls instead of the pins and when I reach the sixth pin the pick is so constrained I can't move it up or down.

My questions are:
- Are my picks really the problem?
- Would a simple set of slimline southords solve it?
- What other brands sell thin picks for euro locks?

:| It just looks like the standard profile you find here in germany a lot. I have a goso pickset and lots of standard profiles including abus, wilka, kale, stabilit, bks and zeiss ikon.

Althought its almost the same, the thickness varies ineach lock. Still I could pick all of them with my goso picks.

As your lock is a cutaway you can extremely easily see, if you can depress any pin to the shearline. Please try this.

I can depress the first five pins to the shearline, but only after many tries and applying some torsion strength to force the pick's neck around the jagged keyway. I can't move the sixth pin; by the time I reach it, the lockpick is blocked inside the lock and can't move up/down/sideways nor rotate.

Essentially, my problem is that right under the pins, the keyway has a Z shape and the pick's rectangular section is too large to go around the corners.

See if you can locate some 0.015" / 0.38mm thick picks from where ever you can shop. They pretty much flex around anything.. But don't use much force with them prying pins up.

Good luck!

I don't know where you live so I can't really offer much help there. I use Peterson and sparrows (N. American)

I just picked the lock (after removing the sixth pin) and got the answer to my first question:
- My picks are A problem, but not THE problem. I just had to understand that the pick doesn't need to push pins vertically by moving, it can also be put diagonally under a pin and rotated without moving to push it.

About the slim picks, I'll consider it a help, or a matter of comfort until I find an even more jagged or thin keyway. (which doesn't mean I won't look for them, but it's less urgent).

I'm in Spain. I suppose most lockpicking supplies in my future will come from UK, or imported from the US or China.
