BeSt material for lock picks

Postby JosephRidell » 26 Mar 2016 15:35

I plan on making my own set of lock picks and want to know what I should make them out of? As well as what types of picks I should make. I know I want to make some picks for a warded lock as well as a couple of rakes and hooks. Any advice?

I make my own picks and I have done some research on materials and right now i'm using the metal inserts from windshield wipers. There are 3 different widths and I use one that is about 3mm wide. You can also use feeler gauge stock or what's called encased sink cleaner which is just a thin piece of steel tape (not stainless steel however) and it is relatively inexpensive at about $7 for 20ft. It is available at Home Depot and Walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Peerless-Enca ... r/17043696

I use drain snakes sometimes as well. It is 30 thousandths of an inch thick, so it does usually have to be thinned out some.
