Can this lock be picked?

Postby Bendfella » 22 May 2016 12:28

hi I am Stoney from Namibia. I want to know if this lock can be picked. its mostly all over in my country

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v611/ ... _label.jpg

the only lock pick set I have is the bogota set I bought from serepick, inspired by the youtube video, the art of manliness.

the lock is a union silver cylinder lock. I apply light tension and when I press the pins u must do it sideway down but they don't stay down

I have picked locks before, this one I cant and the pins are hard even by raking

what confuses me is I can rake the same lock (the brass version) of which the pins are softer with any bogota rake within seconds

Yes, it can be picked.

Why can one lock be raked with a Bogota pick quickly, and another one not at all? Bitting of the key is the main reason.

Thanks for replying. The keyway is very tight and the pins are big and harder not a normal lock. The lock is stainless steel and also v very hard. It has 5pins both sides. I u have that lock can u pick and upload a video? Believe me I can't get a video onbyoutube for that. I also think my Bogotá pick is too sift for it cause it bends. Which pick would u recommend for it

A diamond or a hook pick, actually I prefer a pick gun with a thin .025 blade

Y1 is kind of a tough keyway to pick. Sometimes you can't lift the pick straight up, you have to twist the pick around the bend in the keyway as you lift. Also, Yale bitting allows for some very deep pins. I recommend a deforest pick. You might have to reach behind a long pin to lift up a short pin.
