Colored Pins

I recently purchased a practice lock that came with a range of pins for setting up various configurations.

The pins come in several colors: green, red, gold, silver. Each of the colors has pins of varying lengths and it seems like there isn't any difference between the pins of varying colors (other than the color).

Am I missing something or are the different colors meaningless?

They come like that in pin kits to make them easier to identify and sort.

Correct. Universal pin kits (and some OEM) often use a spectrum of several colors to make pins easier to sort, as described above. The vast majority of residential and commercial full-size cylinders use the same diameter pins (0.115", IIRC). Google pics of "LAB Universal Pin Kit" for examples.
